Ron's Big Mission by Rose Blue and Corrine Nadden
Non-Fiction 5 Stars
A true story about a boy growing up during a time when not everyone was treated equally. While reading this book, I learned that a long time ago, not everyone was treated fairly or as equals. Ron (the main character) taught me how to stand up for what you feel is right, no matter how scary it might be. I also learned the conflicts can be resolved peacefully, even when you have strong opinions.
I found it very interesting, that even as a child, you CAN help make the world a better place. No one is too small to make a difference. The author wants you to understand the impact Ron left on people in his community and our country.
You will find out that Ron does not stop his journey in changing the way others think about people. He became our first African American Astronaut. This book makes me think about how lucky we are to live in a world we do today.
I also think about how important kids actions are to help continue making our country a fair and equal place for all people with different backgrounds. We ALL hold the power to make positive changes at home, school, and our communities!
